Guru Parampara of Shri Yog Abhyas Ashram Trust
In the Vedic and Yogic traditions of Bharat, wisdom is neither bought nor invented—it is received. It flows like an eternal, unpolluted river through Guru-Shishya Parampara (the lineage of teacher and disciple). The word Guru signifies the dispeller of darkness: Gu representing the veil of ignorance and Ru the illuminating light of supreme awareness.
At Shri Yog Abhyas Ashram Trust (SYAAT), established in 1888, Yoga is not merely treated as physical posturing or gymnastics. It is revered as a sacred, scientific path of self-transformation, inner healing, and spiritual realization. The foundation of every kriya, asana, pranayama, and meditative discipline practiced within our ashram rests entirely upon the divine grace (Guru Kripa) of our revered Gurudev Parampara.

The Living Lineage: Five Pillars of Yogic Wisdom
The lineage of SYAAT represents an unbroken chain of enlightened masters who revived the subtle, ancient science of Yogic therapy and consciousness for humanity.
1. First Guru Gaddi: Yogeshwar Ramlal Ji Bhagwan (Mahaprabhu Ji)
The fountainhead of this divine lineage, Yogeshwar Mahaprabhu Ramlal Ji Bhagwan, laid the spiritual cornerstone of the ashram in 1888. A towering spiritual luminary and master of Ashtanga Yoga, Mahaprabhu Ji codified practical Yogic science so that householders and spiritual seekers alike could attain vitality, mental clarity, and spiritual emancipation. His mission was simple yet profound: to alleviate human suffering by awakening the latent divine energy within every individual through pure, disciplined practice.

2. Second Guru Gaddi: Yogeshwar Mulakhraj Ji Bhagwan
Taking over the sacred mantle in 1938, Yogeshwar Mulakhraj Ji Bhagwan embodied intense tapasya, devotion, and steadfast surrender to the Guru’s command. He expanded the reach of the ashram, preserving the sanctity and precision of Mahaprabhu Ji’s teachings during a transformative period in Indian history. His life exemplified selfless service (Seva), instilling in disciples the understanding that inner sadhana must reflect outwardly as compassion for all living beings.
3. Third Guru Gaddi: Yogeshwar DeviDayal Ji Mahadev
In 1951, Yogeshwar DeviDayal Ji Mahadev ascended the Guru Gaddi. A visionary seer, he bridged traditional yogic sadhana with modern scientific research, establishing Yogic cure and research initiatives that proved the therapeutic efficacy of Yoga for chronic physical and psychosomatic ailments. Under his divine direction, ashrams and Divya Yog Mandirs were set up across the nation, making genuine Yogic therapy accessible to millions irrespective of caste, creed, or status.
4. Fourth Guru Gaddi: Yogeshwar Surender Dev Ji Maharaj
Ascending in 1998, Yogeshwar Surender Dev Ji Maharaj carried the flame with profound humility, depth, and administrative vision. He institutionalized the mission, strengthening the network of centers and ensuring that the teachings remained pristine amidst the commercialization of modern yoga. His teachings emphasized discipline, mental equanimity, and the scientific alignment of breath and posture to harmonize the nervous and energetic systems.
Core Tenets of the SYAAT Parampara
The lineage does not merely pass down titles; it transmits a living spiritual energy (Prana Pratishtha) governed by core spiritual commitments:
- Authentic Yogic Therapy (Yog Chikitsa): Rather than viewing Yoga as routine fitness, the Parampara approaches it as an exact therapeutic and energetic science, treating ailments at their root cause—the Pranamaya and Manomaya Koshas (vital energy and mental sheaths).
- Discipline with Devotion: Technique without Bhakti (devotion) remains mechanical; devotion without discipline lacks grounding. The lineage harmonizes rigorous practice with heartfelt surrender to the Divine.
- Selfless Service (Nishkama Seva): Yoga is lived off the mat. Service to the community, free health guidance, and awakening awareness among the youth are central to our spiritual vows.
- Universal Accessibility: Rooted in Sanatan Dharma, the wisdom of Mahaprabhu Ramlal Ji Bhagwan is universal, welcoming all seekers who aspire toward health, peace, and spiritual illumination.
Preserving the Light for Future Generations
In a fast-paced world fraught with physical fatigue, mental anxiety, and spiritual disconnect, the sanctuary of the Gurudev Parampara stands as an unshakeable anchor.
As we expand the work of Shri Yog Abhyas Ashram Trust globally—conducting camps, publishing research, and training dedicated teachers—our focus remains anchored at the lotus feet of the masters. We do not claim authorship of this truth; we are merely instruments carrying forward the sacred torch ignited by Mahaprabhu Ramlal Ji Bhagwan. Through disciplined sadhana, reverence for the lineage, and genuine inner alignment, every seeker can awaken their inherent divinity and experience true peace.
